How to Heal

"We can all grow through what we go through."

I whole heartedly believe that improving the relationship we have with ourselves is the start to achieving a better life.

Ultimately, the key to any change or growth, is to identify what our personal desires are.

To do this, we must be brave and share what we believe we lack or what is getting in the way of our happiness.

What do you think is standing in the way of a happier, more fulfilling life?

We all have self-doubt, but this can be hard to understand and even harder to share.

Do you find it hard to face your fears and wonder how you can stop them from limiting your life?

Are you ashamed of how you view yourself and afraid for your true self to be seen?

Are you harming yourself because you are in pain?

It often feels impossible to start the remodelling process when you feel broken to begin with.

I believe that living without self-worth can make life seem meaningless.

We can change that feeling with time, patience, trust, respect, and care.

My Approach

If you are going through a difficult period of your life, you may feel unlovable, broken, and flawed. You may be afraid to share these negative thoughts. Life can be hard and sometimes feel pointless, especially during challenging times such as traumatic life events and difficult relationships. You may feel unsupported, that you have little self-control and feel vulnerable. Sometimes, turning to family and friends for help may not feel like an option; if this is you, counselling is a good alternative to try. You can give yourself the time to focus on yourself. This may be the first time you have contemplated putting your emotional growth first and, if you are reading this now, it is time.

I provide my clients with support tailored to their needs. With one-to-one counselling, I use a multipronged approach. Schema Therapy used to be my main approach, but now I find that most people want to focus on the here-and-now problems in the early stages of counselling and not start with intense childhood investigation. However, I am happy to be led in this direction if my client wishes. I like to use aids such as diaries and Socratic questioning because recording and monitoring tools are a great way to see our individual ways of operating or Modus Operandi, (MO). Our thoughts are a continued internal dialogue in our brains, but they can come and go quickly. When we learn to understand what has influenced our more negative thoughts we can discuss their effects on our lives. This is the beginning of taking charge and creating strategies to manage or change aspects of our lives that we no longer want.

I have attended counselling throughout my life, and can personally relate to its benefits. It helped me monitor and maintain a healthy mental state. In practising counselling, I hope to help my clients do the same.  I respect a person's race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, and ideological beliefs. Respect is key in my counselling room, and we will agree on a set of protocols that we both adhere to, whereby thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment and privacy. Our contract is built on trust and respect.

Together, we can learn from each other and make positive changes so that you can live a fuller and happier life.

Testimonials

  • Sam divorcee

I did not think I needed to speak to anyone until I seperated from my husband. My life changed in everyway for my children and I. I found the first year or two isolating and difficult. I lost myself worth for a minute or two. I found understanding and empowering advice. I can now see that many of my fears go much futher back than my marriage. Ali helped me to cry and laugh, both really loudly.

  • Brian Sales Manager

I enjoy working with Ali because our sessions usually end on a good note. I always laugh and life feels less heavy at the end of every session. I am glad I took the plunge.

  • Emma Ex-Student

I am finding it difficult to get into the job market after attending Bristol Uni studying History.                                      I am only on my 3 session but I feel less upset about my life and less angry. I think that I was putting so much pressure on myself to be in a great job that I made myself and those around me unhappy.

  • Margaret Maternity Sister

I am enjoying my sessions and use online as it suits my work schedule. I did not think I would like this method as much as I do.

  • Marta Registered Nanny
